Athens is a city in McMinn County, Tennessee, United States. It is the county seat of McMinn County.Jean Lawrence Cook was born in Athems Tennessee. Cook was the most prolific piano roll artist in history.n the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 84.8 males.
